General Summary:



The Chief of Staff serves as a senior advisor to the President and reports directly to the President on a wide variety of administrative and executive duties, special projects, and initiatives involving the President's office and its priorities. The Chief of Staff, with the support of the Executive Assistants, coordinates the execution of University-wide projects undertaken by the President as well as handling questions, concerns, issues and requests on the President's behalf. This position serves on the Presidents Executive Council.





Principal Duties and Responsibilities:


Facilitates strategic management processes, provides expertise, and program management for specific strategic initiatives that are critical in meeting the institutions strategic planning goals. Responsible for interacting with colleagues across the university to ensure institutional alignment and synergy with the strategic plan.

Prepares and/or contributes to the preparation of reports, proposals, briefings, presentations, and responses on institutional and strategic issues.

Participates in key meetings with faculty, administrators, and others as delegated. Accurately represents the President's position during internal meetings and discussions to help drive understanding and move decision-making forward.

Directs special projects and programs as initiated by the President.

Under the direction of the President, monitors, and manages financial matters in the Office of the President.

Manages office communications, works in collaboration with the University Communications staff on message strategies and consistency, and prepare and coordinate special correspondence for the President.

Represents the President to various constituencies, both internal and external to the University.

Represents the University and at the request of the President, both locally and nationally. Keeps abreast of student affairs, community, regional, state, and national events and issues relative to the University's involvement.

At the President's request, serve as a resource for the Presidents Executive Council and senior leadership of the university.

Support and assist the President in carrying out the mission of the university and coordinates with the Office of General Counsel on legal matters that are received in the Office of President.

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the President.







Qualifications:


Master's degree is required, Ph.D. or J.D. preferred

A minimum of five years of experience working in higher education.

A minimum of five years of experience influencing and working closely with higher education executive level leaders or other like executives.

Proven track record of developing effective partnerships across disparate groups to facilitate decisions and ensure implementation.

Working legal knowledge on issues relating specifically to higher education.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.

Experience balancing strategic leadership with detailed involvement in support of accountabilities.

Excellent demonstrated judgment and diplomacy in working with diverse groups to address complex issues.

Ability to advise on matters by delivering known facts without biases or preferences.

Demonstrated ability to represent the chief executive leader in matters that require mature and sound judgment.

Working knowledge of policies, operations, and practices in higher education, especially those with legal implications.

Expertise in prioritizing workflow, managing resources, and overseeing financial and budget matters.

Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze data and information, draw conclusions, and produce reports and recommendations.

Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality with personnel matters and sensitive information.

Knowledge of University policies and procedures, or ability to acquire knowledge within the first 90 days of employment.

Honesty and integrity are required competencies.

Highly irregular work hours are required.
