This position is currently 100% remote. After COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted, the Outdoor Program Manager role will primarily be remote with in-office visits as required. Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts ("GSEMA") offices are located in Andover, Middleboro, and Waltham, MA May also involve work activities on properties, designated sites/events, and community locations as needed.

Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of Outdoor Program Manager. This hybrid-based role reports to the Associate Director of Camp and Outdoor Adventure.

The Outdoor Program Manager will contribute to the membership engagement and retention of girls at Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (“GSEMA”) by providing high impact program opportunities for girls to grow and develop beyond the troop experience. The Outdoor Program Manager is responsible for the development and delivery of level appropriate and inclusive curriculum that supports the Girl Leadership Outcomes and the Girl Scout National Program Portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:
• Align girl program curricula with the Girl Scout National Program Portfolio/Girl Scout Leadership Experience, organizational objectives, and/or comply with requirements of grant-funded programs focused on the outdoors.
• Develop curricula and materials for kit rentals available to the girls and volunteers of GSEMA. Create process for renting and delivery/return of kits.
• Ensure that all programs and activities are consistent with Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) guidelines, GSUSA health and safety standards, and local, state, and federal laws, and the council’s risk management plan is followed for all operations.
• Design girl programs and activities that are cost effective, aligned with annual budget, and maximize use of council and partner resources.
• Prepare logistics prior to each girl program by organizing supplies, confirming program site, preparing program rosters, preparing confirmations for participants, and scheduling and confirming staff for programs.
• Serve as the lead at girl programs to ensure proper and timely set up, conduct participant check in, staff assignment and support, trouble shoot issues, and maintain program site as needed.
• Serve as a council trainer for volunteers and staff on camping and outdoor activities, outdoor adventure program activities, and First Aid and CPR.
• Together with Human Resources and/or the Outdoor Program management team, recruit, screen, hire, train, and supervise part-time staff, seasonal staff, and/or volunteers to implement camp and/or outdoor programming on council-owned properties, ensuring that each staff member complies with GSUSA, American Camp Association (ACA), Massachusetts (MA) regulations and council guidelines.
• Conduct council evaluations at all offerings.
• Provide superior client service to all campers, parents/families, staff, volunteers and vendors.
• Collaborate with staff and volunteers (including volunteer committees and teams) to provide and promote outdoor opportunities for girls and families throughout the year.
• Support the camp directors with the operation of camp: units, program, business, camper and staff supervision, and health care.
• Provide support for the council product sales and other fund development activities.
• Assist with volunteer committees to support council program initiatives.

• Maintain confidentiality on behalf of the Girl Scout organization and in accordance with the GSEMA Comprehensive Information Security Program (CISP).

• Stay current on GSEMA and GSUSA policies, procedures and strategic goals and initiatives.
• Staff “All Hands on Deck” (AHOD) events as needed (some evenings and weekends required).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in education or equivalent experience in a related field.
• 4-5 years of experience in teaching, developing, conducting and/or supervising innovative youth programs and support systems preferred.
• Bilingual skill is desirable.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software; adept at utilizing social networking; experience using Salesforce or demonstrated ability to learn and become proficient with new technology.
• Strong public relations skills and ability to develop community collaborations; able to relate well to both adults and children.
• Must be able to communicate clearly orally and in writing.
• Capacity to, independently and as part of a team, plan, organize and prioritize work, while managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to effectively identify, analyze and solve practical problems and successfully manage a variety of variables and personalities; ability to adapt in a changing environment.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, and be willing to travel throughout the council footprint.

Work Environment: This is a remote position with work from home, in communities served, and at designated GSEMA offices or properties as needed.

Physical Demands:
• Requires transporting supplies to a variety of sites and volunteers; ability to lift and manipulate up to 20 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• May involve prolonged periods of sitting, standing or working on a computer.

Travel Requirements: Must have access to reliable transportation to travel to GSEMA offices/service centers and across the Council footprint as needed. As this position requires approximately 50% travel within the Council footprint and may require occasional travel outside the Council footprint, possession of a valid driver’s license and access to motor vehicle is preferred.
