Job description:

Tenure-line Assistant or Associate Professor of Finance Faculty Position

Illinois Wesleyan University invites applications for a tenure-line, assistant or associate professor position in finance beginning August 2019. We seek an experienced, dynamic, and caring academic professional with evidence of teaching excellence, a commitment to undergraduate financial education, a scholarly agenda, and relevant professional work experience. IWU is an equal opportunity employer committed to a diverse workforce, and the department is committed to supporting a culturally and academically diverse professoriate; we encourage applications from members of underrepresented groups.

Illinois Wesleyan is a nationally ranked, small, private, undergraduate liberal arts university with highly selective admission criteria and a tradition of teaching excellence. Scholarly productivity is supported including collaborative research with faculty and students. The University community prides itself on a strong rapport among students, faculty, and staff.

Consistent with the University's mission that emphasizes integration of liberal arts and professional education, the Department of Accounting and Finance strives for excellence in undergraduate financial education by preparing professionals with a strong applied and theoretical foundation in finance, accounting and business. Our graduates are widely respected for their analytical skills, ability to communicate, and leadership potential.

At the assistant level the position requires a minimum of an M.S. in Finance or an M.B.A. with a concentration in Finance or a Ph.D. in Finance or a D.B.A. with a Finance emphasis. Candidates for the associate level requires a PhD. in Finance or a D.BA. with a Finance emphasis. The applicant will provide evidence of teaching effectiveness at the undergraduate level and present a plan for an active scholarly agenda. Candidates at the associate level must provide evidence of scholarship completed in the discipline. In addition, preferred candidates will have relevant professional work experience in the financial services industry. Ideally, candidates will be able to contribute to the university’s broader curriculum as well, including general education courses teaching writing and critical thinking. The University and Department are committed to the recruitment, inclusion, and success of an increasingly diverse and international student body, and candidates are urged to highlight any experience or background that may help them contribute to these goals in their application materials.

Our primary need is for someone to teach three to five sections of introductory financial concepts and a 300 level non-investment related elective in the spring. However, the candidate will be also be expected to teach a variety of undergraduate finance courses at all levels (corporate finance, banking, derivatives, investments) in a liberal arts environment. We seek candidates who are truly superior undergraduate teachers and have a commitment to research. The successful candidate is expected to advise undergraduate majors, supervise undergraduate research, produce scholarship, and perform departmental/university-wide services.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until October 20. Please submit via email one electronic file in PDF format that includes the following: letter of application, graduate school transcripts (photocopies acceptable but official copies required for appointment), teaching evaluation summaries, teaching philosophy statement (including courses taught) that explains teaching finance in an inclusive manner in a liberal arts setting, description of a research agenda, and a current vitae with the names of 3 references (including title, address, e-mail address and telephone number) to:
